LESBIANS TAKE OVER THE GRAMMYS’ SPOKEN WORD CATEGORY

What a year! The Best Spoken Word Album category is ruled by three extremely talented and respected gay women – Janis Ian, Rachel Maddow and Ellen DeGeneres. Other nominees include another two reasonably well-known authors – Bill Clinton (“Back To Work: Why We Need Smart Government For A Strong Economy”) and Michelle Obama (“American Grown”)!! Talk about a tough competition.

Ian is nominated for her unique audio version of her autobiography, “Society’s Child,” which is punctuated by her vocals of choruses and relevant lines of her songs that describe each chapter of her life.  The title comes from her Grammy nominated song of the same name when she was only 15, which also gave her a place in the Grammy Hall of Fame. This is her 9th nomination in various categories, from jazz to folk, best vocal, best record, with two Grammy wins.

Rachel Maddow takes on a more serious topic -- “The Unmooring Of American Military Power,”  while Ellen DeGeneres brings her comedy to us in the audio version of her book “Seriously... I'm Kidding.”

Supreme Court Issues Order List—No Word Yet on Proposition 8 Case

Today, the United States Supreme Court issued an Order List revealing certain cases considered at its November 30 Conference that have been granted review.   Hollingsworth v. Perry (formerly Perry v. Brown), the federal constitutional challenge to California’s Proposition 8, was not on the list.

Enacted in November 2008, Proposition 8 eliminated the fundamental freedom of gay and lesbian Californians to marry.  The Supreme Court is expected to release another Order List from the November 30 Conference on Monday, December 3, at 9:30 a.m. EST/6:30 a.m. PST.

On July 30, 2012, the proponents of Proposition 8 asked the Supreme Court to review the February 2012 decision of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, which affirmed the historic August 2010 judgment of the Federal District Court that found Proposition 8 unconstitutional.  The Ninth Circuit held:

“Proposition 8 serves no purpose, and has no effect, other than to lessen the status and human dignity of gays and lesbians in California, and to officially reclassify their relationships and families as inferior to those of opposite-sex couples.  The Constitution simply does not allow for ‘laws of this sort.’”

Proponents’ request for Supreme Court review, known as a petition for a writ of certiorari, is only granted upon an affirmative vote of four Justices.

U.S. Supreme Court to Consider Tomorrow Whether to Hear Proposition 8 Case

Prop. 8 and DOMA Cases Distributed for Nov. 30 Conference

Tomorrow, the United States Supreme Court will consider whether to grant review in Hollingsworth v. Perry (formerly Perry v. Brown), the federal constitutional challenge to California’s Proposition 8.  The Perry case, along with several cases challenging the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), have been distributed for discussion at the Justices’ private Conference scheduled for Friday, November 30, 2012.

Enacted in November 2008, Proposition 8 eliminated the fundamental freedom of gay and lesbian Californians to marry.  DOMA, which was enacted by Congress in 1996, nullifies the marriages of gay and lesbian couples for all purposes of federal law.

The Perry case was filed on May 22, 2009, in Federal District Court on behalf of two California couples, Kris Perry and Sandy Stier, and Paul Katami and Jeff Zarrillo.  On February 7, 2012, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit issued a landmark ruling upholding the historic August 2010 decision of the Federal District Court that found Proposition 8 unconstitutional.  On July 30, 2012, the proponents of Proposition 8 asked the Supreme Court to review the Ninth Circuit’s judgment.  A request for Supreme Court review, known as a petition for a writ of certiorari, is only granted upon an affirmative vote of four Justices.

Should the Court grant review, the Justices will go on to consider whether Proposition 8 violates the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution.  If the Court denies review, the February 2012 decision of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit that struck down Proposition 8 is made permanent, ending four years of marriage inequality in California.

The Supreme Court is expected to release an Order List with its decisions on cases it has granted or denied review from its November 30 Conference by Monday, December 3.  In the event that the Court neither grants nor denies review in Perry by December 3, the Justices will discuss the case again at a future Conference.

The American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER), the sole sponsor of the Perry case, will hold a national media conference call after the release of the Order List to discuss significance and impact of the Supreme Court’s decision to grant or deny review in Perry.

Speaking on the call will be Plaintiffs’ lead co-counsel Theodore B. Olson and David Boies; plaintiffs Kris Perry and Sandy Stier, and Paul Katami and Jeff Zarrillo; AFER co-founder Chad Griffin; and AFER executive director Adam Umhoefer.

To listen in to the call, please dial (866) 535-6106.  Enter conference ID 76518722.

In response to a current redefining of nerd culture & growing nostalgia for the early 20th century, Gonzalo's first design contribution to The Andrae Conversation will be an ingenious line of Quadri-Loop Bowties. Andrae gave fans a sneak peek of the bowtie on Lifetime’s current season of Project Runway All Stars. The designer, hungry to innovate his work further, added new elements to the accessory. One in Five Same-Sex Couples in the U.S. Now Live in a Jurisdiction Where They Can Marry

On Tuesday, November 6, 2012, the residents of Maine, Maryland, and Washington affirmed that their states will recognize marriages for lesbian and gay couples. In addition, Minnesota voters rejected a constitutional amendment barring same-sex couples from marrying.

Williams Institute analyses of Census 2010 data suggests that approximately 35,000 same-sex couples live in Maine, Maryland, and Washington, and that over 17,000 will marry in the next three years.  Many of these couples are raising children, ranging from 14% of same-sex couples living in Maine to 20% in Maryland.

After yesterday’s vote, same-sex couples can now marry in nine states in the U.S. and the District of Columbia.  As a result, 20% of same-sex couples now live in states where they can marry. Overall, 16% of the U.S. population lives in states where same-sex couples can marry.

If the U.S. Supreme Court affirms or let’s stand the 9th Circuit opinion striking down Proposition 8 in California, 35% of same-sex couples in the U.S. will live in states where they can marry; and 28% of the U.S. population will live in states where same-sex couples can marry.

Further data about same-sex couples in these states, and all 50 states and D.C., can be found in the US Census reports on the Williams Institute website.

Senator-Elect Tammy Baldwin Makes History as First Openly Gay U.S. Senator

Upon the Wisconsin Senate Race being called for Tammy Baldwin, Human Rights Campaign President Chad Griffin released the following statement:

Tammy Baldwin has always been a trailblazer, but with her victory tonight Senator-elect Baldwin has again earned her spot in the history books. As the first openly gay person elected to the United States Senate, Tammy Baldwin is a role model for LGBT youth and all young women across the country.

“With a relentless focus on the issues that matter most to Wisconsin voters — economic security, access to healthcare, and fairness and inclusion for all. As a result, she’s earned the respect of all her constituents, gay and straight. It was HRC’s privilege to be part of the broad coalition that helped ensure her victory, and we can’t wait to work with her and her team as she takes on this new role.”

HRC is proud to have been part of Tammy's campaign from the beginning. To ensure her victory, we raised and contributed over $500,000 for her campaign. We featured Tammy in nine fundraising emails reaching a total audience of more than 2.5 million. And we sent staff and volunteers to support Tammy's successful campaign and the campaigns of other pro-LGBT candidates like Mark Pocan, who is also openly gay and was elected tonight to succeed Tammy in the House.

LGBT Voters May Make Difference in Close Election

In what political observers see as an historically close election heading into the campaign’s final weekend, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) voters are breaking even more toward President Barack Obama in a new pre-election poll released by Logo TV and conducted by Harris Interactive.

In the online survey completed October 23–28, 2012, following the third presidential debate, 72% of LGBT voters now report their initial support for the re-election of President Barack Obama, up 7% from Logo TV’s benchmark poll conducted by Harris Interactive August 10-15, 2012, prior to the Republican and Democratic National Conventions. In this new poll, Mitt Romney receives support from 20% of LGBT voters, statistically the same support he received in the pre-conventions poll of 21%. When the LGBT vote is looked at with those who “lean” toward one candidate or the other, Obama’s margin over Romney increases from +44 in the August benchmark (67%-23%) to +53 now (73%-20%). This contrasts with the national vote, in which Obama’s lead over Romney, including leaners, moved from +6 lead (48%-42%) before the conventions to -2 deficit (43%-45%) immediately following the debates.

Human Rights Campaign Files FCC Complaint Over Unsolicited Anti-Gay Text Messages to Voters

The Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization, is calling on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to investigate mass spam texts that are taking aim at President Obama, marriage equality, and a number of other progressive issues. Recently, HRC supporters have received unsolicited anti-gay text messages such as: “Obama endorses the legality of same-sex marriage.  Say No to Obama at the polls on Nov 6.”  The Washington Post reports that the texts originated from ccAdvertising, a firm specializing in political phone and text outreach – and with a history of spamming cell phone users with unsolicited content. An image of one of the anti-Obama, anti-marriage equality messages ccAdvertising blasted out is available below. HRC’s letter to the FCC is available here.

Since many Americans pay for their text messages on an as-used basis, ccAdvertising is costing money to some cell phone users by spamming them with these unwanted messages.

It appears ccAdvertising tried to hide their identity on their website – a violation of the terms of service with their online host, GoDaddy. As a result, GoDaddy revoked ccAdvertising’s anonymity and their leading role in sending the text messages became clear. It remains to be seen who is funding the firm’s unsolicited anti-equality texts. The Washington Post reports that ccAdvertising’s chief operating officer is Republican Jason Flanary, who is currently running for Senate in Fairfax County, Virginia.

Other messages users reported receiving include: "Obama supports homosexuality and its radical social agenda. Say No to Obama on Nov 6!," "Obama denies protection to babies who survive abortions. Obama is just wrong," "Stop Obama from forcing gay marriage on the states. Your vote is your voice," and "Seniors cant afford to have 4 more years of Obama budget cuts to Medicare."

Sending these types of unsolicited spam messages is a blatant violation of Telephone Consumer Protection Act, which is what is prompting HRC’s call to the FCC to investigate further.

L.A. premiere of "Those Whom the Gods Love"

In Downtown LA, where artists have brought a cultural redevelopment to the historic buildings, nestled in the arts district, the theater company, KIDS TERRIBLES, set out to do something a little different to shake up their audience.  In the L.A. premiere of Those Whom the Gods Love written and directed by Olivia Lilley, we, the audience, are asked to meet at a newly opened restaurant called Eat.Drink.Americano, with the promise that a guide will escort us to an unknown location.  This “dude” shows up (and that’s all we’ll tell you) – he functions as a comic foil to the production itself.  A few of us were unsure if he, in fact, was the guide due to his off-beat style and humor.  But don’t hesitate or you’ll miss a show well worth your time.

The show is fun, fresh, and fearless in its sexual freedom!  Audience members described it as “saucy”, “naughty”, “hilarious”, and “edgy”.  One woman laughed as she said, “these characters are seriously messed up!”

The play perfectly ties to its Los Angeles setting with its ironic subject matter of how L.A. shapes American culture, and how three individuals, Lulu, Darren, and Sonia, fall prey to its promised fantasies, in a comedic yet tragic way.  The scene transitions reference the music of the late Amy Winehouse, Britney Spears, and the Smashing Pumpkins – all artists who comment on their own traumatic experiences as ‘celebrity’. With the NY Post recently publishing that "LA is the future", and "New York better watch out", it’s no wonder that all of the actors, producers, and director on this project hail from the Big Apple.

The characters’ journeys are epic in their drama and the stakes are high for them even if their lives seem small to the audience – which is where the humor comes in.  The writer and director, Olivia Lilley, has created a quick-witted script that shows up in the naive Sonia, the worm-like Darren, and the fiery Lulu.  Tyler Ham Pong plays Darren, and convincingly portrays a manipulative, self-absorbed neurotic.  Elise Cantu plays Sonia, whose big brown eyes brim with innocence and courage when she arrives at Darren’s doorstep to meet her internet boyfriend.  Christina Myers plays Lulu, and shines as brightly in her performance as the star Lulu longs to be.  The audience is eager to discover what Lulu and Darren are hiding up their sleeves in order to bed Sonia first.  In their battle to win Sonia's affections, Darren and Lulu stop at nothing in this sordid love triangle that transcends sexual orientation and identity. Courage Campaign Responds To Chick-Fil-A Halting Funding For Anti-LGBT Organizations

The Courage Campaign, a leading LGBT rights organization, put out the following statement on reports that Chick-fil-A will stop giving money to anti-gay organizations.

Rick Jacobs, founder and chair of the Courage Campaign:

"If reports are accurate, this news is a big victory for all the people who stood up for equality and against hate. From politics to business to culture as a nation we are seeing a historic shift towards equality for all. While large majorities of Americans believe in equality, a few continue to discriminate against millions of Americans and stand in the way of progress. If true, today's move by Chick-fil-A is a big step in the right direction. Discrimination and hate have no place in this country."
Oops! Maybe not. Just received an update from HRC today, Sept 20, 2012

Marriage for Gay Couples Could Come to California in Matter of Weeks

Supreme Court to decide fate of Prop 8 case shortly; denial of hearing would mean return of marriage equality in California
In a matter of weeks, the U.S. Supreme Court will decide whether or not to hear the Perry case – the suit challenging California’s ban on marriage for gay and lesbian couples known as Prop 8.  If the court decides not to hear the case, the appeals court ruling will stand striking down Prop 8 as unconstitutional, and the state will begin issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples again.  The court will also consider whether to review a number of cases challenging the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which bars the federal government from recognizing married same-sex couples, even in states that legally recognize their union.  These milestones, along with the four states deciding marriage-related issues on the ballot in November makes these next few weeks critical to the future of marriage equality in this country.

On Wednesday, September 18, 2012 at 1:30pm ET, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) will hold a national phone press briefing on the status of the marriage cases in front of the Supreme Court and the marriage equality landscape across the country.  For more information on the various cases, states and federal issues, view our new infographic at: http://www.hrc.org/blog/entry/2012-the-year-of-marriage

NCTE CONDEMNS SENSATIONALIST TRANS SEGMENT ON ANDERSON LIVE

Today, Anderson Live will featured an exclusive interview with a person who claims an anti-baldness drug made them transgender. In response to the show's decision to air the segment, National Center for Transgender Equality Executive Director Mara Keisling said:

"All of us here at the National Center for Transgender Equality are surprised, saddened and disappointed that a respected show like Anderson Live would give credence to this type of sensationalism and misinformation. This segment is just another case of sensationalizing an already marginalized population plain and simple."

The segment, as described on the Anderson Live website, says "Mandi, who was born male, speaks out for the first time, claiming that a hair loss treatment caused him to become transgender. Mandi is joined by her ex-wife, Michelle, who opens up about how Mandi's identity transformation has affected their son."

Keisling added, "In the past, Anderson Cooper and his team have earned a great deal of respect from trans people for their coverage of our issues. Tomorrow, they'll throw all of that away. Worst of all, they seem set on misinforming the public about the causality of trans identity."

Anderson Cooper's other show, AC360 on CNN, airs a segment called "Keeping Them Honest," in which he addresses hypocrisy among public figures and elected officials on, among other things, critical lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues. NCTE urges transgender advocates and allies to keep Anderson Cooper honest about how this segment does real harm to real trans people.

"Anderson Cooper knows better than this. Anderson's team is better than this," said Keisling.

BARNEY FRANK'S STATEMENT ABOUT THE LOG CABIN REPUBLICANS

Congressman Barney Frank today released the following statement as a follow-up to his recent comments during the Democratic National Convention about the Log Cabin Republicans.

I am not surprised that members of the Log Cabin Republicans are offended by my comparing them to Uncle Tom.  They are no more offended than I am by their campaigning in the name of LGBT rights to elect the candidate and party who diametrically oppose our rights against a President who has forcefully and effectively supported our rights.

That is the first reason for my admittedly very harsh criticism.  This election is clearly one in which there is an extremely stark contrast between the two parties on LGBT rights.  The Democratic President and platform fully embrace all of the legal issues we are seeking to resolve in favor of equality.  The Republican candidate for President and the platform on which he runs vehemently oppose us in all cases.  On the face of this, for a group of largely LGBT people to work for our strong opponent against our greatest ally is a betrayal of any supposed commitment to our legal equality.

But my use of “Uncle Tom” was based not simply on this awful fact that they have chosen to be actively on the wrong side of an election that will have an enormous impact on our right to equality, both in fact and in the public perception of the popularity of that cause.  If the Log Cabin Republicans – or their even more outlandish cousins, the oddly-named GOProud –were honestly to acknowledge that they let their own economic interests, or their opposition to strong environmental policies, or their belief that we need to be spending far more on the military or some other reason ahead of any commitment to LGBT equality, and on that ground have decided to prefer the anti-LGBT candidate to the supportive one, I would disagree with the values expressed, but would have no complaint about their logic.

The damaging aspect of the Log Cabin argument, to repeat the most important point, is that they may mislead people who do not share their view that tax cuts for the wealthy are more important than LGBT rights into thinking that they are somehow helping the latter by supporting Mitt Romney and his Rick Santorum platform.

It is a good thing for Republicans to try to influence other Republicans to be supportive of LGBT rights.  The problem is when they pretend to be successful when they haven’t been, and urge people to join them in rewarding the Republicans when they have in fact continued their anti-LGBT stance.  I have been hearing the Log Cabin Republicans proclaim for years that they were improving the view of that party towards our legal equality.  In fact, over the past 20 years, things have gotten worse, not better.  Most recently, on DOMA, when the House Republicans offered an amendment to reaffirm it, they voted 98% in favor of it, while Democrats voted more than 90% against the amendment.  And it is not surprising that they have not been successful.  Giving strong political support to people who are maintaining their anti-LGBT stance is hardly an effective strategy for getting them to change it.

The argument Mr. Cooper and the others in the Log Cabin Republicans have put forward in their defense is that they have succeeded in getting the Republicans to reduce the extent to which they denounce us, and, in Mr. Cooper’s phrase, the fact that Paul Ryan is “willing to engage” with gay Republicans.  That is where Uncle Tom comes to mind.  They are urging people to vote for the anti-LGBT candidate over the most supportive LGBT candidate and platform imaginable because the “antis” are calling us fewer names and are willing to talk to some of us.  It is this willingness to acquiesce in a subordinate status as long as the masters are kinder in tone, although in substance, that emulates Uncle Tom.

I note Mr. Cooper points to a couple of Republicans as reasons for supporting that party and helping advance its anti-LGBT crusade.  As to Representative Ryan, in addition to his “willingness to engage with them,” Mr. Cooper cites his vote for the Employment Nondiscrimination Act.  In fact, Paul Ryan has an overwhelmingly anti-LGBT voting record, including opposition to the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” and a transgender-inclusive hate crimes bill, and support for a constitutional amendment not just to ban future same-sex marriages but to dissolve existing ones.  It is true that on one occasion he voted for ENDA, but he did so only after voting minutes before for a Republican procedural maneuver – a motion to recommit the bill – which falsely invoked the specter that passage of ENDA would compel same-sex marriage and which, if it had passed, would have killed the bill.  In other words, Paul Ryan has always voted against us, except for one occasion when he voted for us only after first trying to make the bill he theoretically supported inoperative.

Mr. Cooper also cites Susan Collins.  She was very good on the question of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”  But the argument that supporting Susan Collins advances LGBT rights ignores the fact that Senator Collins has twice defeated Democrats who were far more supportive of our issues than she was.  And an example of that is the current referendum in the state of Maine on marriage.  We have a very good chance of winning in Maine, and winning a referendum is important both for the substantive rights of the people in Maine and for the political point that it demonstrates.  Unlike the two Democratic Representatives from Maine, Chellie Pingree and Mike Michaud, Susan Collins has been stubbornly silent.  That is, in a state where marriage is on the ballot, and in a year in which she is not up for reelection, Senator Collins is withholding her support from us, unlike any Democrat who would have run against her.  And remember, these are the best that the Log Cabin Republicans can cite.

Some have complained that in comparing the Log Cabin Republicans to Uncle Tom, I was ignoring the fact that they are nice.  I accept the fact that many of them are nice – so was Uncle Tom – but in both cases, they’ve been nice to the wrong people.

Vague or explicit LGBT campaigns?

 by , FH OutFront

Recently I wrote about the potential of the LGBT target group and about the characteristics which all members of this diverse community have in common. In this post I want to present you two advertising strategies to target gay consumers via mainstream media and discuss some problems or reservations that are related with these strategies.

Generally, before talking about strategies I define a gay marketing campaign as all communicational messages targeting gay consumers by implicit or explicit homosexual references. This can vary from vaguely implying of a same-sex attraction, to an undisguised promoting of gay imagery. This is a very easy distinction but you can classify every gay advertising campaign along this dimension.

ISRAELI STUDY FINDS THAT OPENLY GAY SERVICEMEMBERS DO NOT UNDERMINE MILITARY COHESION

The study can be found here: http://bit.ly/PAxJI3

The presence of openly gay soldiers does not undermine unit cohesion, according to a new statistical analysis of the Israel Defense Force (IDF) sponsored by the Palm Center and authored by Danny Kaplan of Bar Ilan University and Amir Rosenmann of the University of Haifa. “As we reach the one year anniversary of repeal of the United States military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” (DADT) policy, this new study responds to the central concern that an integrated military would harm cohesion,” said Aaron Belkin, director of the Palm Center.

The authors surveyed 417 male Israeli soldiers from 22 military installations. Statistical analysis of responses to the survey indicated that for both combat and non-combat units, the presence of openly gay troops in a unit had no relationship to the cohesiveness of the unit. Israel has allowed gays and lesbians to serve openly in the military since 1993.

Prior to the repeal of DADT in September 2011, some military and political leaders predicted that a policy of open service would undermine unit cohesion in the U.S. military.

The new study of the IDF, entitled Unit Social Cohesion in the Israeli Military as a Case Study of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”, appears in the current issue of Political Psychology and is available at http://www.palmcenter.org/. For the Palm Center’s earlier analysis of gays and lesbians in the IDF, see http://www.palmcenter.org/files/IsraelShortOnline(2)_0.pdf

19 Year Old Kevin Michael Barba -"Wealth is a state of mind"

Move over Kim Kardashian. Take a seat, Paris Hilton. At 18-years-old, Kevin Michael Barba may have his sights set on a life in the spotlight, but he has no interest in joining the long list of spoiled socialites who came before him. With the launch of his lifestyle line The Kevin Michael Barba Collection, which made its television debut on MTV International, Barba is hoping to show the world that “wealth is a state of mind.”

People like to hate you before they love you. I took that approach as a joke — I had no idea where to look. But you know what? It worked.” In addition to building his lifestyle brand, available now, Barba is also active in the non-profit world, using his name to raise awareness for LGBT youth organizations including The Trevor Project. “I didn’t always have this much self-esteem. It isn’t something you’re born with, it’s something you gain.” Balancing business and style with a passion for philanthropy is something he learned at a young age from family friend and role model Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

Why is HRC calling the Family Research Council a hate group? Because it is one.

Washington Post publishes Chad Griffin op-ed expressing condemnation for shooting, detailing FRC’s history of hateful rhetoric

Today the Washington Post published an op-ed column by HRC President Chad Griffin expressing condemnation for the shooting that occurred at the Family Research Council’s headquarters last week and detailing the virulent rhetoric that has earned them the designation of a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

FRC Shooting: Blame Guns Not Gays

The American Family Association(AFA), a conservative pro-marriage organization just issued a statement on the shooting that occurred at the headquarters of the Family Research Council.(FRC)

"Yesterday’s shooter, who was a homosexual activist who volunteered at a D.C. lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered community center, took the argument to a whole new and ugly level.

Disagreement is not hatred. We don’t hate anyone. In fact, we love homosexuals enough to tell them the truth about the risks involved in their lifestyle choices. But for those who hate the truth, the truth will seem to be hate.

We acknowledge the many homosexual activist groups who issued a statement condemning yesterday’s violence, and we commend them for doing so."

In turn, they also blame the Southern Poverty Law Center for listing both the AFA and the FRC as hate groups.

"However, the Southern Poverty Law Center must be called to account. The SPLC argues incessantly that the use of inflammatory and incendiary language when talking about homosexuality promotes violence, and is quick to blame FRC and other organizations such as AFA for every act of violence they possibly can."

Let's not use this unfortunate and tragic incident as fodder to inflame our disagreements on same-sex marriage. The actions of the shooter, Floyd Lee Corkins II,  at FRC are not a part of the LGBT movement towards equality.

Over 25 LGBT organizations responsibly issued statements the other day condemning the actions of Corkins.

With all of the recent devastating shootings occurring recently in the U.S., it's time for our country to really start looking at gun control and how easy it is to acquire arms by the likes of anyone. Until better safeguards are in place, statements like that of the AFA could cause more harm than good.
